SPJ student wins scholarship for journalism dedication

Ciara Frisbie GSU photoCiara Frisbie, SPJ student member and former SPJ Georgia board member, has been awarded the Mildred W. Seydel Scholarship for journalism students. Given by Georgia State University, Frisbie was selected based on her dedication to journalism and leadership qualities.

“Mildred Seydel broke the gender barrier and was one of the first women to work as a newspaper journalist in Georgia. She was a nationally syndicated columnist and book author, a strong advocate for women’s rights, and the founder of her own publishing company and quarterly journal,” said Frisbie.

Frisbie is a senior at Georgia State University with a major in broadcast journalism. She is news director at GSTV and a previous investigative intern for WSB-TV. Frisbie also won two Larry Peterson Memorial Award for Investigative Journalism in 2015. She recently returned from Japan where she participated in a 10-day trip as a student journalist.
