From the moment you start reading the book it is hard to put down. An investigative award, the Larry Peterson Memorial Award for Investigative Journalism and an annual workshop, the Larry Peterson Award Workshop, was named after Larry Peterson. Peterson died in 2014 from cancer. His wife, Lanie, established the award. The Savannah Morning News along with SPJ Region 3 have partnered to keep Peterson’s work alive by recognizing outstanding investigative reporting in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In 2017, the Peterson Award will become part of the Green Eyeshade Awards circuit and journalists will be eligible from 11 states to enter the investigative reporting award .
